Original Art by Christina Young

Mediums

Pastels

I Enjoy the soft tones and fluidity of working with pastels. Working with oil pastels are particularly fun to work with. I find them to be similar to oil paints without the mess.

Canvas

My canvas consist of either acrylics or oils. Occasionally I incorporate paper or pastels in a piece.

Charcoal

Charcoal is an unforgiving medium but I enjoy the stark contrast between black and white on paper. Some of my earliest works were created in one-on one sessions with my mentor.

Mixed Media

Mixed media is a tedious and time consuming process but the results are well worth the effort. A ’Birds on Notes’ series was exhibited in December 2019 at UHCL in Houston, Texas

Paper

Monotype - A printmaking technique where ink is applied to a plate and manipulated on the surface. One Mono-print results from this process.

Drypoint - An image is created by using a scribe to carve a burr on a plate’s surface. The ink will settle on the burr, making a print.

Rubber Stamp Relief - Printmaking is a reductive process, meaning you cut away portions of a block. What is left behind will print. All printed works are unique and are printed on high quality- Lenox 100 or similar weight product.

Bio

"Study the science of art and the art of science..."
- Leonardo Da Vinci

I found my passion for art and it has inspired me to create unique designs. I began exploring my artistic abilities in 2013 by creating a series of greeting cards. Once my creative gene took hold, I took art classes at universities, local art studios and one-on-one instruction. The mediums I use include: canvas, pastel, charcoal, acrylic, oil, mixed media and drawing.

Japanese artwork is inspiring with its simplicity and elegance.

Over the years I have developed a love for abstract art. What appeals to me is seeing a piece that provides a hint to the viewer while leaving the meaning up to them. Often times my pieces take a turn while I am working and end up completely different from my original intent. This is an unexpected surprise.

Art is the ultimate way of expressing yourself visually.
